# Bid on a listing

> Offer your own price and check out once the vendor accepts.

A **bid** is your own-price offer on a published listing. The vendor sees the amount, never your
identity, and accepts or rejects it. A bid on a listing is distinct from a legacy
[offer](/overview/glossary#offer) on a project opportunity.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Make an offer">
    Open a listing, choose **Make an offer**, enter an amount, and choose **Submit bid**. Any
    amount above zero is allowed, up to \$1,000,000.

    <Note>
      Bidding is a money move. Only team admins can place and complete bids.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the vendor's decision">
    You get a notification when the vendor accepts or rejects. Until then the button reads
    **View bid**, and you cannot place another bid on the listing. Bids do not expire.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete checkout">
    An accepted bid is not yet a purchase. Choose **Checkout** on the bid under **Bids**, or
    **Checkout accepted bid** on the listing, and complete the same checkout as
    [Buy now](/buy/buy-a-listing) at the bid amount. An accepted bid over \$5,000 pays by
    [invoice](/buy/fees-and-payment#pay-by-invoice). The assets then appear under **Purchases**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Bid statuses

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Submitted** | Waiting for the vendor. |
| **Accepted** | Ready for checkout at the bid amount. |
| **Rejected** | The vendor declined. You can place a new bid. |
| **Withdrawn** | The vendor archived the listing while your bid was open. |
| **Paid** | You completed checkout; the purchase is under **Purchases**. |
| **Refunded** | The payment was reversed, and access was removed. |

Your team can hold one open bid per listing. There is no way to withdraw a bid yourself.
