# Post an opportunity

> Request listings that meet your requirements.

An **opportunity** is a buyer request for listings that meet stated requirements. Post one when
the catalog does not have what you need. Tier 2 vendors respond by submitting matching listings
for you to review and purchase.

Vendors who can see the request also see your organization's name, unless you post it
anonymously. You always see which vendor organization submitted each listing.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a new opportunity">
    Open **Opportunities** in the sidebar and choose **New opportunity**. The composer has four
    steps: **Basics**, **Requirements**, **Quality checks**, and **Review**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill in the basics">
    Add a title, an overview, at least one domain tag, and a submission deadline in UTC. The
    deadline must be in the future; it is when vendors stop submitting. Choose **Post publicly**
    to show your organization's name or **Post anonymously** to hide it. Attachments, such as a
    spec as a PDF or ZIP up to 100 MB, are optional.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the requirements">
    List must-have and nice-to-have requirements, then choose at least one supply type you will
    accept. Standalone HUD environments and robotics data cannot be requested.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose quality checks">
    Optionally add checks to run on submitted listings, at the listing level or per supply type,
    with **Add a check**. Mark the ones you require as **Mandatory**; environment and task checks
    cannot be mandatory. Vendors can still submit when you select none.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit for review">
    On **Review**, choose **Submit for review**, or leave the composer and save a draft. DataVendor
    reviews the request and sets which vendors see it, all eligible vendors or only invited ones,
    before it opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review submitted listings">
    Once the request is open, eligible vendors submit listings until the deadline, and you get a
    notification for each one. They appear on the opportunity under **Submitted listings**, each
    marked as matching, partly matching, or outside the supply types you asked for. Buy them
    through the normal [listing checkout](/buy/buy-a-listing).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Lifecycle

Track your requests on the **Open**, **Drafts**, **In review**, and **Closed** tabs.

| State | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Draft** | Private to your organization. Edit it, then choose **Submit for review**. |
| **In review** | Awaiting DataVendor's review and vendor audience selection. You can still edit or close it. |
| **Open** | Accepting listing submissions until the submission deadline. |
| **Closed** | Hidden from vendors and no longer accepting submissions. Listings already submitted stay accessible. |

To stop a request early, choose **Close** on an open or in-review opportunity.

## Existing project opportunities

Legacy project opportunities and their submission history are available in **Projects**.
These records are read-only.
