# Try a sample

> Evaluate a small platform-chosen slice before buying the full listing.

A **sample** is a small purchase from a listing that DataVendor chooses for you: one environment
drawn at random, plus one task that runs on it. Both are copied into your team so you can run them
like your own.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check for the sample option">
    Listings that offer a sample show its price in the catalog and **Try sample** beside **Buy
    now** on the listing.

    <Note>
      Only listings that sell HUD tasksets with their environments can offer a sample, and only when
      they hold at least two runnable tasks and the vendor set a sample price. Repositories, Raw data,
      and Harbor tasks are never sampled.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Buy the sample">
    Sample checkout works like any purchase, at the listing's sample price plus the transaction
    fee. You get one sample per listing per buyer team, and you cannot choose what it contains.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy it into your team">
    Under **Purchases**, open the sample's **Assets** and choose **Copy tasksets to your team** and
    **Copy environments to your team**. Then run it on [HUD](https://hud.ai) like any of your own
    tasks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Buy the full listing">
    If the sample holds up, [buy the complete listing](/buy/buy-a-listing) from the same record.
    The sample does not discount the full purchase.
  </Step>
</Steps>
