# Selling FAQ

> Answers for vendors on preparing supply, listings, demand, and earnings.

## Getting started

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Can I work through both listings and opportunities?">
    Yes. Some vendors list existing assets first, then pursue opportunities later. Others are a
    better fit for opportunities from the start. DataVendor can help decide which path makes sense
    based on what you have and what you want to do.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do vendor tiers work?">
    Tier 1 unlocks listings, Tier 2 unlocks opportunities and takes one signature, and Tier 3 is
    invite-only. See [Vendor tiers](/sell/tiers).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What if I am not sure whether my supply is worth listing?">
    You can bring any supply you would like to potentially monetize. If preparing a formal listing
    would take substantial effort, contact DataVendor with a small representative sample first so
    the team can help assess fit. For codebases, the
    [estimator](/sell/estimate-your-codebase) gives an advisory value before you list anything.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What should I prepare before a working call with DataVendor?">
    A short inventory of what you could list: the asset type, where it came from, who owns it,
    whether you have the right to license it, what documentation exists, and any obvious
    restrictions. A small representative sample also helps DataVendor recommend next steps.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can one partner bring supply from many vendors?">
    Yes, if you have a real supply network and the right to represent that supply. DataVendor can
    work with partners who bring multiple vendors or assets into the marketplace. Revenue share,
    representation rights, and commercial terms are agreed case by case.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I earn by referring other vendors?">
    Yes. Choose **Refer a vendor** in your account menu for your referral code and a shareable
    link. Vendors who set up their organization through it are attributed to you, and DataVendor
    pays you a referral fee out of its own share on deals it closes with them. Each fee lands
    in your wallet once the buyer's payment clears, settles with the referred vendor's sale, and
    can be withdrawn without the platform fee. The
    [Data vendor referral agreement](https://datavendor.ai/legal/data-vendor-referral-agreement)
    sets out the rates and conditions.
  </Accordion>

## Listing your supply

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What should I include with a codebase?">
    The code plus the context that explains why it matters, with secrets and customer data
    removed. The checklist is on [What you can sell](/sell/what-you-can-sell#prepare-a-codebase).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need to connect GitHub?">
    No. [Connect GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket](/sell/connect-your-accounts), or upload the
    repository as a ZIP. See [Add assets](/sell/inventory/add-assets). DataVendor only needs
    access to the repositories you choose, and you should not connect or upload anything you are
    not allowed to share.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Where should I send materials?">
    Upload them in the app, through [Inventory](/sell/inventory/add-assets) or a
    [listing](/sell/listings/create-a-listing). Do not send data or code by chat or email. If the
    app does not support your asset type yet, or the material needs special handling,
    [book a call](https://cal.com/team/hud/talk-to-us-data-vendor-platform) and DataVendor will
    agree an intake path with you first.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens after I submit a listing?">
    Automated [quality checks](/sell/listings/quality-checks) run first. Mandatory checks gate
    publishing; once they clear, publish the listing with **Go live**. A listing does not guarantee
    a transaction, but better documentation and cleaner rights usually make matching faster.
    DataVendor estimates that vendors typically complete at least one deal within 2–8 weeks, with
    high-quality supply moving faster. Earnings from a sale settle 14 days after payment; see
    [Get paid](/sell/get-paid).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What do quality checks cost?">
    Mandatory checks, the ones that gate publishing, are always free and deterministic.
    Recommended environment checks are credit-priced per check; the quote shows the exact total
    before you start a run, and re-running a single failed check costs that check's current price.
    A passing re-run re-certifies without re-buying the whole suite.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What does DV quality certified actually require?">
    A listing is [DV quality certified](/overview/glossary#dv-quality-certified), and shows the
    verified badge, when both **Required to publish** and **Verified badge** in its
    [quality checks](/sell/listings/quality-checks#verified-badge) pass with nothing skipped,
    including every recommended environment check that applies to its assets. **Insights**
    never affect it. Using [skip review](/overview/glossary#skip-review) forfeits the badge for
    that run, and editing the listing or refreshing its assets removes it until checks pass
    again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can buyers see or download my raw materials before purchase?">
    No. DataVendor may use descriptions, summaries, metadata, redacted previews, or approved
    samples to help buyers evaluate the asset, but buyers cannot download your raw uploaded files
    before purchase.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I see other vendors' listings or prices?">
    You see published listings, their prices, and the organizations that published them in the
    catalog, the same view buyers have. Until your team has live listings of its own, that view is
    limited to the first page (see the next question). Other vendors' drafts, private listings, and
    raw files are never visible to you, just as yours are never visible to them.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why can't my team search the catalog yet?">
    Vendor-only teams see the first page of the catalog until they have 2 live published listings
    of their own, the [browse gate](/overview/glossary#browse-gate). Search, filters, sorting, and
    further pages unlock then; the browse page shows your progress. Buyer teams are exempt, listing
    links always open, and hiding or archiving listings can lock the gate again.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Demand and pricing

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What supply is most in demand right now?">
    Enterprise software codebases and cybersecurity, legal, and finance data. See
    [What buyers want now](/sell/what-you-can-sell#what-buyers-want-now).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How is pricing or value estimated?">
    By rights, demand, documentation, how hard the asset is to recreate, and fit to a buyer's
    need. Recent price ranges are on
    [How value is judged](/sell/what-you-can-sell#how-value-is-judged).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why do I only see a few opportunities?">
    You only see the opportunities your organization can currently access. Some require a certain
    tier, a tighter fit, or completed paperwork; others are matched manually rather than shown to
    every vendor. If you expected to see a specific opportunity, ask DataVendor to check whether it
    should be visible to you. Opportunities are time-bound and often arrive in batches around
    model-training runs, so some may have closed before you check.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Earnings

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="When can I withdraw my earnings?">
    Once they settle, 14 days after payment, and after Stripe Connect onboarding. See
    [Get paid](/sell/get-paid).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Should I convert earnings to credits or withdraw them?">
    Converting to [credits](/overview/glossary#credits) is 1:1, instant, and fee-free, and
    credits pay for credit-priced platform actions like recommended environment checks, but the
    conversion is irreversible. Withdrawing sends real money to your bank at the cost of the 20%
    [platform fee](/overview/glossary#platform-fee) plus an estimated Stripe transfer fee, both
    itemized on the quote.
  </Accordion>
